Hello!
My name is Abigail Chipman and this is my first journal entry for my WNM (Web Design & New Media) 700 class at the Academy of Art University. This is obviously an ongoing assignment throughout the semester, with the purpose of giving me a place to brainstorm ideas, set goals and reflect on classmate and instructor feedback as I develop a case study for my portfolio.
Every week I am supposed to answer the following questions:
- What did you complete this week?
- What will you complete next week?
- What issues did you come across?
These questions are a good way to record my progress toward my project every week, and they're also a good jumping-off point for reflection and course correction if need be.
So, without further ado, allow me to answer these questions for this week:
- What did you complete this week?
- I created a mind map that helped me think about my background and interests in such a way as to get started thinking about the kind of project/case study I'd like to propose. I've included an image of it below.
- I also had a chance to look through my previous work and shared some of my favorite pieces with the class. The most popular seems to be a short video I made in my Motion Graphics (WNM 613) class. I have linked that below as well.
- What will you complete next week?
- Next week, I'll continue the brainstorming process in order to zero in on the subject matter and end product for my case study.
- What issues did you come across?
- The mind map was a challenge, not only because I wanted to give a Goldilocks level of information (not too much, not too little, but just right), but because I am always nervous about disclosing anything regarding my disability. I never know how people will react. It's always easier to talk about things like my favorite food or TV show, or which artists inspire me.
